Welcome to the One Room Challenge – Week Three.
Okay I’m gonna start this week off my saying I do not enjoy painting. The big section in the middle? I’m down for it. But the cutting in? I’m not a fan. First I’m not tall so I’m on a ladder. I go up the ladder, paint a section, go back down the ladder, move it over, go back up the ladder and paint another section 😩. Not a fan!!!
But hey this room needs to get painted and apparently this is the busy season for painters so I’m the official painter. So Benjamin Moore just launched this new line of paint called Century.
Century is a small batch interior paint available in a curated palette of 75 pre-mixed colors–each with unprecedented depth and richness.
Century is the first paint with a Soft Touch Matte Finish, the result of a precise science that adds a new dimension to walls, similar to a soft leather glove.
If you don’t know this already all paints have a color undertone. Even with that knowledge I was still afraid when I opened the can and it’s purple undertone looked more like just purple. I guess the name BLACK CURRANT should have clued me in. But it dried black so that’s the most important thing.
How it Went On
I’m not a painter so everything I say after this is not advice it’s just what I did.
I prepared the walls by brushing off any dust, scraping off imperfections and filling any holes.
I want to say that I asked my Century rep if I needed to prime the walls (Remember I hate to paint). He mentioned that for the best finish I should prime but that if the walls were drywall (check) and already painted (check) I was good. I did NOT prime the walls. Lol
The paint is really thick but that means it went on really well. As you can see the walls are light but as I cut in (which I hate. LOL) it went on so smoothly. I used a really good brush to cut in (learned that from my former assistant who loves to paint) The coverage was complete and honestly I may only do one coat. I painted over the walls and the trim and got great coverage on both!!
There is a special roller required for best use. My rep provided one when he brought the paint to me. It goes on shiny (doesn’t all paint) but dries to matte finish. Here’s the best part…IT’S SOFT!! Like when you touch it, it feels like velvet. Yeah I was petting the wall. Even thought it’s soft you can still wash it but honestly since the color is black I don’t think much washing will be going on.
Okay I’m not done painting but since my actual fixtures haven’t gone up yet I can’t paint in the dark. Plus what fun would it be to show you the completed room before the final reveal. Check back next week to see what else I got into.
