Welcome to the One Room Challenge – Week Four.
Okay this week I’ll be highlighting the “fifth wall” aka the ceiling. I have a strong love for doing something spectacular on the ceiling. I even wrote a post about it that you can read about here. So anyhoo let’s get back to week four
I knew I wanted a dramatic ceiling treatment and I actually approached several vendors (large rose paper, gun smoke murals and others) about sponsorship and none of them were interested or their production schedules didn’t allow for it.
If you don’t know I receive at least 50 emails a day from various vendors who keep me updated on their various offerings, sales and new products. Astek Wallcoverings was one of these vendors.
Scene 1 - Finding the Perfect Paper
One Room Challenge – Week Four
So scene, I’m in bed making my daily perusal of email and there I see this!!
Immediately I’m like OMG (insert heavenly chorus here) THIS IS THE ONE!!!!
I don’t even wait, I email them right away asking if they would be willing to sponsor me.
Their affirmative response was so quick that I thought for sure they didn’t get that I wanted a HUGE mural for the ceiling. So after another round of emails it was confirmed that they were willing to work with me.
I want to interject here that I came across this company while I was a student at FIDM and they had graciously sent me a sample of their wallpaper so I could complete a project. Not many companies work with students in that way.
Scene 2 - The Company and What They Can Do
Working with Astek has been so easy. This product is printed digitally so I was able to get it to the exact size of my ceiling. Then I was able to specify the coloration based on the other paint colors in my room and a bonus for me was to have a touch of gold added to really bring the whole scheme together.
Like the choices are endless with what you can design and they can print it for you.
Scene 3 - The Paper Arrives
So I know I showed just a snippet of the room being painted but I want you see what it looks like now so you get the full idea of the impact of the paint.
So I have a weekly Mastermind group and we meet on Fridays via Zoom. I saw the UPS man coming through the window and started to do the happy dance. My paper was finally here.
I opened it a just little bit to show the wallpaper installer so I’ll give you the same snippet. It actually doesn’t get installed until next week so you’ll probably have to wait until the final reveal to see the gloriousness that is my ceiling.
I still have a bit of a way to go especially with the decor items. I’m still not quite sure about the bed and may have to head to IKEA to grab a bed. There are lots of things that will be ordered in the coming week so I can pull it all together. Pillows to be sewn and cornices to be ordered and installed.
See you back here next week for more of La Chambre Noire
